Background

Together with her husband, David, who handles the books, Lynn Groom operates GroomWritingWorks just outside of Birmingham, Alabama.

Lynn started copywriting right out of college in Southern Living's advertising department, which gave her ample opportunities to do promotional writing. Her first freelance gig came at the tender age of 22, when a barbecue restaurant owner asked her to jazz up the food descriptions on his menu.

In just a few years, she moved from Southern Living a wider range of responsibilities at smaller publishers, writing and editing everything from back cover copy to annual reports. Her 15 years of corporate and freelance work have afforded her terrific opportunities to write for almost everyone, including book buyers, book sellers, mothers, grandmothers, pastors, children, teachers, students, librarians, travel agents, travelers, cooks, the press, home owners, shoppers, and new software owners. She has written press releases, catalogs, curricula, newspaper and magazine articles, newsletters, bios, annual report copy, help copy, and DVD back covers. She has culminated her corporate writing career in technical writing gig, where she works with a lot of geeks, just like her.

The Grooms have one adorable child, Catherine, one snooty cat, Sophie, and one unbelievably high-maintenance dog, Winston.
